Is Circumcision a Prerequisite for Converting to Islam?

Q.) When a Christian or any other non-Muslim converts to Islam is it compulsory or not for them to have circumcision done? Does the age of the convert have any bearing on the answer? [Hassan Nu'mani]

A.) Performing circumcision is not a prerequisite of converting or remaining as a Muslim. However, it is desirable to do so. Many non Muslims interested in converting to Islam are misled regarding the correct position of circumcision, and do not convert.
