Q.):Is there any condition regarding the age of the goat for aqeeqa just like it is for sacrifice (that the age should be at least one year)? Further how are we supposed to ascertain the age of the goat?

A.)  The same conditions that are applicable to a Qurbani animal are applicable to an animal to be used for aqeeqah. Therefore, it is necessary for a goat that is used for aqeeqah to be one year old.

To ascertain the age you may ask the farmer who had reared the animal or an expert in this field. If this is not possible then one may use the teeth as a guide to ascertain this. Generally a goat with two permanent front teeth (big) is considered at least a year old (between 13-15 months old).
